About Us

It's your body. So shouldn’t what happens to it be your decision?

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is the leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization in Washington state, and we believe that every woman should be able to make personal decisions about the full range of reproductive health options. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington works to protect every woman’s right to access the full range of reproductive health options, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is the state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Our 12,000 members are mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, sisters and brothers working together to improve reproductive health care in Washington state.

Our Organization
Structurally, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is four organizations in one:
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington 501-(c)(4)

Mission: To develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington does issue advocacy, lobbying, and provides information on candidates’ positions on choice. We work with our lobbyist and legislators in Olympia to chart and pass pro-choice legislation and to defeat legislation that would limit a woman's right to choose. Contributions are NOT tax-deductible

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington Foundation 501-(c)(3)
Mission: To support and protect, as a fundamental freedom, a woman's right to make reproductive choices.  The mission is accomplished through support of education, training programs, and public policy initiatives.

Contributions to our Foundation are tax-deductible. This money cannot be used for direct political work. Foundation money can be used for issue education and some grassroots lobbying.

State Political Action Committee (PAC)

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington PAC can directly support candidates for state office. We educate voters on a candidate's position on choice before he or she becomes an elected representative. All contributions and donors to our state PAC must be reported to the Public Disclosure Committee (PDC).

Federal PAC

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington's Federal PAC is able to directly support federal candidates. All contributions and donors to our Federal PAC must be reported to the Federal Elections Committee (FEC).

Our Accomplishments
Apart from our ongoing work to engage pro-choice supporters in the political process, we have enhanced the pro-choice movement in Washington state in several arenas.
Politics: An entire branch of our organization is devoted to ensuring that your right to reproductive freedom stays legal, by participating in the entire political process and informing members about important political events concerning choice.
We:
  • Endorse political candidates
  • Work directly on political campaigns
  • Lobby for vital pro-choice bills
  • Inform our constituents about important legislation
  • Provide a database of all Washington state legislators and their positions on crucial choice issues

Access: NARAL Pro-Choice Washington understands that although it is of utmost importance to maintain the legality of all reproductive options, these rights are undermined if women cannot access care.
  • The Emergency Contraception Project: ensuring that emergency contraception is available throughout Washington state.
  • The Abortion Access Network: allowing women from many areas of the state and beyond to access an abortion clinic should they choose to.
  • Training Workshops: aiming to teach pro-choice activists how to effectively discuss choice issues.
  • Choice Action Teams: Members petition locally, send letters, place calls, and organize events to promote awareness of the threat to reproductive rights in our state.

Education: We at NARAL Pro-Choice Washington seek to increase the number of informed decisions made about reproductive options. The most logical place to start to teach people about their contraception options and reproductive rights is while they are still in school.

Accordingly, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington has created the Students for Choice high school and campus programs to provide students with the skills and resources necessary to fight for young women's right to control their reproductive health.
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington also offers Internships and Service Learning Projects designed to give students an invaluable glimpse into the inner workings of a national non-profit choice organization.
