Internship Positions:
Auction Communication Intern

Available: August through October 

Reports to: Auction Coordinator

Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F 10:30am – 7:30pm.

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary:

Intern position will directly assist Auction Coordinator with all communication, editing and marketing activities for our Annual Auction. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

·        Proofread and edit program and marketing materials

·        Assist with data entry

·        Create Live Auction PowerPoint presentation

·        Create, proofread and edit display materials for auction items

·        Assist Development staff as necessary with other tasks

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and a great sense of humor.

Communications Internship

Available: July 2010-September 2010, longer if intern is available

Reports to: Communications Director

Hours: 10-20 hours per week between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary

Using the media to effectively communicate with the public is one of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s most important activities.  Press coverage of our issue is one of the best ways to reach new audiences, recruit new volunteers and new members.  The Communications Intern will assist with all elements of NARAL’s communications work including, writing press releases, drafting letters to the editor, updating social media sites and drafting content for our website.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Track local and national media every day
  • Draft press releases, talking points, fact sheets and other media materials
  • Write letters to the editor in response to local news stories
  • Provide support to volunteers writing letters to the editor
  • Maintain press lists

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose
  • Previous experience and/or coursework in writing, journalism, or media

Electoral Internship

Available: August – October. Prefer if intern is available through election.

Reports to: Political Field Organizer

Hours: 20 hours/week.  Must be available Monday-Thursday evenings and most weekends. 

 

Responsibilities:

The Election/Political Intern will work 20 hours per week and will assist with all aspects of our November 2010 elections work, as well as planning and executing all other field activities. Intern will work under the supervision of the Political Field Organizer and be an essential part of the field team.
  

§  Assist with volunteer recruitment for phone banks, bird-dogging, and other election related activities.

§  Help prepare materials for phone banks, bird-dogging, and other election related activities.

§  Help publicize election related volunteer activities through flyers, community calendars in newspapers, ally organizations.

§  Help track candidate speaking events, radio/TV appearances, and other public appearances.

§  Work with pro-choice candidates on their campaigns by canvassing, attending rallies, etc. 

§  Assist with other field/election related duties as needed.

 

 

Qualifications:
  •  Reliable access to personal transportation on weekends.
  • Strong personal commitment to a reproductive justice.
  • Outgoing personality and willingness to talk to strangers on the phone and in person
  • Good computer skills (Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Strong internet navigational skills

Event Planning Internship

Available: Starting ASAP for a 3 months commitment. Candidates who can commit longer than 3 months are encouraged to apply.

Reports to: Director of Field and Program Development

Hours: 8-15 hours per week, flexible schedule Mon-Thurs 10:30am – 8pm, F 10:30-3:30pm. At least one evening per week strongly preferred. 

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary

Intern position will directly assist the Director of Field and Program Development in planning and executing NARAL Pro-Choice Washington events such as house parties, Liberty Ball Auction and Pro-Choice Pop Star. Duties will range from administrative office tasks, event logistics, participant turn-out and working on the day of the events.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help with event logistics.  
  • Help to publicize the event, work with staff to determine creative ways to get the word out.
  • Make outreach phone calls to previous attendees, NARAL volunteers, donors and allies. 
  • Track RSVPs and make follow up phone calls to invitees.
  • Help in hiring entertainment for events.
  • Help procure contest prizes.
  • Other tasks as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to call NARAL supporters and allies on the phone.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Outgoing personality.
  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose

Students for Choice Campus Organizer

Available: 2010-11 School Year

Reports to: Volunteer and Youth Programs Coordinator

Hours: 5-7 hours per week

Compensation: $100/month stipend

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is the largest statewide grassroots organization dedicated solely to protecting reproductive rights. We work to ensure that Washington’s women have access to the full range of reproductive choices, including healthy childbearing, contraception, and safe, legal, and affordable abortion. Internships with NARAL Pro-Choice Washington let you build your resume while gaining valuable experience. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will work with your school to ensure academic credit where available.

 

Paid Year-Long Internship Available for the 2010-11 School Year

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is looking for responsible, dedicated, resolutely pro-choice students to fill the position of Students For Choice Campus Organizer. Campus Organizers are essential in educating their fellow students about the importance of reproductive rights.

 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Running a Students For Choice Campus Group.
  2. Participating in at least two community/campus outreach events per month.
  3. Planning and implementing 1-2 campus-based events per school year.
  4. Participating in and recruiting students for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington events and campaigns.
  5. Participating in regular supervisory phone calls with NARAL staff.
  6. Finding a replacement at the end of the internship.
  7. Other duties as they may arise (For example, writing a letter to the editor or working with NARAL Pro-Choice Washington to help advance policy goals).

This internship lasts through the academic year and is done on your college campus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Applicants must be comfortable working independently with regular (but long distance) supervision.

Students for Choice High School Internship

Available: 2010-2011 School Year

Reports to: Volunteer and Youth Programs Coordinator 

Hours: 3-5 hours per week

Compensation: Up to $100/month stipend ($5/hour to offset the costs of bus fare, mileage, and/or parking.)

 

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington's Students for Choice High School Internship program is committed to engaging teens as an active part of the Pro-Choice movement.  We strive to do this by teaching teens issues related to reproductive health, rights and justice and then offering them opportunities for pro-choice activism.    

 

Intern responsibilities:

 

·         Students for Choice Teen Interns will attend monthly workshops at NARAL where they will learn the basic principles of the Pro-Choice movement and the skills of community organizing.

 

·         The students will then be able to apply their learning to practical activities through service in the NARAL Office, at NARAL events, and in their own communities.  Service opportunities will be offered weekly with the expectation that students will engage in at least 4 service activities a month. 

 

·         In addition, students will be required to recruit peers to attend monthly workshops, participate in service opportunities, and attend NARAL events.

 

·         Students will be provided with and expected to read news articles relating to the current political landscape and choice issues.

Volunteer & Youth Programs Internship

Available: July 2010-September 2010 (Longer if intern is available) 

Reports to: Volunteer & Youth Programs Coordinator

Hours: 8 - 12 hours per week, M-F, flexible schedule, some evenings preferred  

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary

Volunteers play an integral role in all of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s work.  The Volunteer Coordination Assistant will be responsible for assisting in recruiting and scheduling of volunteers for all NARAL events and office activities.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recruit volunteers and interns for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington using a combination of telephone, internet, and in-person tactics.  
  • Follow up with volunteer and internship inquires in a timely manner.
  • Make volunteer reminder phone calls, send our reminder postcards and e-mails.
  • Help greet and supervise volunteer activities in the office.
  • Data Entry – track volunteer actions in database.
  • Assist Volunteer & Youth Programs Coordinator with other tasks as necessary.

 

Qualifications

  • Willingness to and comfort calling strangers
  • Basic computer skills – (Microsoft Word and Database experience is a plus)
  • Outgoing personality and willingness to work with volunteers
  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose
