Alex Alben is a Real Choice for the 8th Congressional District
SEATTLE– NARAL Pro-Choice Washington and NARAL Pro-Choice America are proud to endorse Alex Alben in the heated democratic primary race for the open seat in the 8th Congressional District. “Alex Alben has made women’s reproductive rights a central issue in his campaign” said Karen Cooper, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “Alben has sought advice and information from NARAL Pro-Choice Washington because he understands that choice is an important issue for voters. Alben is a strong advocate of women’s right to choose,” Cooper said.
The former high-tech executive, father and community leader has consistently spoken out in favor of pro-choice policies. Alben supports federal funds for reproductive services. He understands that the best way to reduce the number of abortions is to insure that teens and families have access to medically accurate sex education, and to make sure there’s funding for family planning. Alben also opposes parental notification laws and understands that parental notification is simply a method to reduce women's reproductive health choices. Allowing minors to seek abortions without notifying parents is “good public health policy” explained Cooper, “we know that if young people have to tell their parents about things they are probably ashamed of, they are unlikely to seek the heath care they need.”
“We decided to endorse Alex Alben because he is the strongest 100% pro-choice candidate in the race,” Cooper explained. As reliable supporter of reproductive choice, Alben reflects views of the majority of voters in the heavily pro-choice 8th Congressional District. “The 8th Congressional District has become the most pro-choice district in Washington outside the 7th in Seattle,” Cooper noted. “Its residents won’t stand for another candidate who claims to support choice but doesn’t vote accordingly. As U.S. House member, Alex Alben will ensure that choice is retained as a fundamental freedom for future generations of Americans,” Cooper concluded.
