NARAL Pro-Choice Washington supports final manual recount
Seattle, WA – More than one month after the general election, Washington's gubernatorial race between Democrat Christine Gregoire and Republican Dino Rossi remains unsettled. This gubernatorial race is the closest in Evergreen state history and perhaps the closest in our nation's history. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington fully supports the Washington Democrats efforts of a final statewide manual recount.
"I am glad that the necessary funds were raised to manually recount all 2.9 million Washington votes cast for governor on Nov. 2," commented Karen Cooper, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. "The right to vote and have every vote counted correctly is fundamental to our democracy. A final recount of all votes cast in the governor’s race will reassure Washingtonians that every vote counts in our state."
Dino Rossi won the first count of the Nov. 2 election by 261 votes. This close margin automatically triggered a machine recount. After the statewide machine recount last week, Democratic candidate Christine Gregoire trailed Rossi by just 42 votes.
