Abortion: A disease it's not

Posted: 07/05/2007

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

So, for those women who have had an abortion and might regret it, a Christian group has come up with a name for that regret: post-abortion syndrome.

Sounds like a real, medical problem, doesn't it? Kind of like "Intelligent Design" -- an essentially bogus term used to make people accept creationism as a viable scientific theory rather than what it really is (a really nice story, a myth).

In this respect, Project Rachel, the group slapping a made-up disease name onto people who have had abortions (something it disagrees with), is a wolf in sheep's clothing. What it's doing constitutes a disingenuous attempt by a religious group to influence the public's perception of abortion.
