NARAL endorses David Della over Tim Burgess for Seattle City Council

Posted: 09/11/2007

Seattle, WA – Last night NARAL Pro-Choice Washington interviewed Seattle City Council candidates Tim Burgess and David Della. After extensive conversation with Mr. Burgess regarding his work with Concerned Women for America, NARAL endorsed David Della.

“Typically we don’t make endorsements in Seattle City Council races because, in the past, all candidates were clearly pro-choice," explained Karen Cooper, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington.  “But questions and concerns arose over this specific race after we learned of Tim Burgess’s longtime association with Concerned Women for America, a virulently anti-choice, anti-woman organization,” Cooper added.

“NARAL Pro-Choice Washington takes our endorsement process very seriously and our supporters count on us for accurate information regarding candidates’ positions on choice. There was a clear difference in each interviewee’s positions, actions, and history on choice.  After interviewing both Mr. Burgess and Councilman Della, we voted to endorse Mr. Della in this race,” concluded Cooper.

Tim Burgess is challenging incumbent Councilman David Della for Seattle City Council, position 7.  Councilman Della has a history of supporting choice. He has attended NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s events and actively sought our endorsement.
