Anti-Choice Dino Rossi Enters Governor’s Race
Seattle, WA – Today Dino Rossi, former state senator and anti-choice gubernatorial candidate, announced that he is again running for governor. “While his announcement is hardly a surprise, I am disappointed that Rossi is running again,” said Karen Cooper, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “Rossi’s record in the legislature, during his campaign, and throughout his stint heading the ethically questionable Forward Washington Foundation, clearly indicates that he is anti-choice, anti-contraception, and anti-woman.” “Dino Rossi is not the kind of leader we want in our state,” Cooper added. During his tenure in the state senate, Dino Rossi voted to fund dangerous and ineffective abstinence-only sex education policies, to allow insurance companies to deny women coverage for birth control pills, and against allowing the Department of Health and Human Services to provide contraception to poor families. Throughout the governor’s race in 2004, Rossi skirted questions about choice and claimed that the governor has no impact on reproductive rights. “Dino Rossi’s campaign represents a step backward for the women of Washington,” Cooper said.
