Anti-choice Tim Burgess Elected to Seattle City Council
SEATTLE, WA - Based on early returns, the Seattle City Council lost a pro-choice seat today when anti-choice candidate Tim Burgess beat out incumbent David Della. "I am disappointed in the election results," said Karen Cooper, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. "I can only hope that Mr. Burgess will remain true to his recent liberal conversion, and that as a councilmember he will stand up for the progressive values that the people of Seattle hold dear." NARAL Pro-Choice Washington helped to bring the choice issue to the forefront of the race, and exposed Burgess's anti-choice record to Seattle voters. In October, NARAL and the Seattle Gay News held a press conference exposing the full extent of Tim Burgess's work with Concerned Women for America, a hate group that maligns women and gays. "It is now up to Tim Burgess to live up to his campaign promises, and promote Seattle's progressive, pro-choice values," Cooper added. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is the leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization in Washington State. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington endorses 100% pro-choice candidates. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington PAC works to elect candidates committed to protecting the full range of reproductive health options, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.
