Washington Voters Re-Elect Pro-Choice Governor Gregoire
NARAL’s Now You Know Dino Campaign exposed Dino Rossi’s radically anti-choice record.
SEATTLE – Washington voters have re-elected 100% pro-choice Governor Christine Gregoire. In a close gubernatorial race, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s Now You Know Dino campaign helped voters make a clear distinction between the Governor, a strong advocate for a woman’s right to choose, and Dino Rossi, who is virulently anti-choice and anti-contraception.
“Washington is a strongly pro-choice state, and Gregoire’s win tonight is proof,” said Karen Cooper, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “Voters were turned off by Rossi’s offensive dismissal of women’s health care concerns and his opposition to the right to choose. It is clear that the people of Washington want a leader who will stand up for women’s rights and health.”
“I am positively thrilled that Gregoire will remain in the governor’s office and continue to be an advocate for women’s reproductive health care,” Cooper added.
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s Now You Know Dino Campaign helped bring choice to the forefront of the governor’s race. Now You Know Dino combined online social networking, banner ads, and old-fashioned grassroots activism to spread the word across the state that Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi not only opposes the right to choose, he is even against access to birth control.

- 53,582: total number of Washington voters educated about Dino Rossi’s virulently anti-choice, anti-contraception record
NARAL volunteers also made nearly 20,000 phone calls on Gregoire’s behalf. In addition, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington sent over 24,000 pieces of mail to targeted voters urging them to vote for Gregoire.
