NARAL Pro-Choice Washington Endorses Mike O’Brien for Seattle City Council
O’Brien is the only pro-choice candidate in the race for position 8. In marked contrast to the races for other Seattle City Council seats, Mike O’Brien and Robert Rosencrantz, candidates for position 8, stand on opposite sides of the issue of reproductive rights. O’Brien is a strong and vocal advocate for a woman’s right to choose; Rosencrantz, on the other hand, has dodged the issue and tried to shield his views from voters. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington proudly endorses Mike O’Brien for Seattle City Council, position 8. “Here in Seattle, most candidates for city office are pro-choice, as is the case for every remaining candidate for Seattle City Council with the exception of one,” said Lauren Simonds, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “Robert Rosencrantz stands apart from the field as the only anti-choice contender for a seat on the council. That is why we took the step of endorsing his pro-choice opponent, Mike O’Brien.” “Mike O’Brien has demonstrated his commitment to women’s rights and health, and he will be a champion for reproductive freedom in elected office. He strongly supports funding for women’s health care as well as comprehensive sexual health education in our schools,” added Simonds. “O’Brien has demonstrated his commitment to working with the council to expand women’s access to reproductive health care.” In stark contrast to O’Brien’s unwavering commitment to the right to choose, Robert Rosencrantz has repeatedly declined to complete NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s candidate questionnaire, and has publicly stated that he supports such anti-choice measures as parental notification for a young woman seeking abortion care. “Seattle voters have demonstrated time and again that they want leaders who share their pro-choice values,” Simonds said. “Mike O’Brien is the clear choice for Seattle.” “That is why NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is working to educate and turnout pro-choice voters to support Mike O’Brien for Seattle City Council in the general election,” Simonds concluded.
