Dino Rossi Even More Extreme In His Anti-Choice Views
The anti-choice Senate candidate now says he only “maybe” supports rape and incest exceptions Anti-choice, anti-birth control Senate candidate Dino Rossi takes an even more radical position on the right to choose. Rossi is quoted in the Seattle Times as saying he would “maybe” make an exception to his opposition to reproductive rights for cases of rape, incest or where the woman’s life is in danger. “We’ve always known that perennial candidate Dino Rossi’s views on women’s health and rights are far outside the mainstream,” said Lauren Simonds, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “But his uncertainty about safeguarding rights for rape and incest victims is beyond the pale.” “It’s no wonder that Rossi has picked up endorsements from ultra-conservative Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) – someone who has called for the death penalty for abortion providers – as well as the anti-choice, anti-woman Family Research Council,” Ms. Simonds added. While Rossi has always been an anti-choice conservative, he tried to avoid the issue in his 2004 and 2008 gubernatorial races in an attempt to appear moderate. After declaring his candidacy for the Senate, Rossi’s public statements on the right to choose have become increasingly conservative and demonstrated just how far out of step he is with the majority of Washingtonians. “NARAL Pro-Choice Washington led the charge to expose Rossi as anti-choice during his attempts to become governor, and we are again mobilizing our statewide network of members and activists to make sure he does not become Washington’s junior senator,” Ms. Simonds said.
