Reproductive Parity Act Approved by House Health Care Committee
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington applauds the advancement of legislation protecting women’s access to abortion coverage OLYMPIA – This morning the House Health Care and Wellness Committee approved the Reproductive Parity Act (HB 2330) by a vote of 7-3. This legislation requires all health insurance policies that cover maternity care to cover abortion care. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington thanks the committee for standing up for equal access to reproductive health care coverage and advancing this vital legislation. “We applaud the committee for approving the Reproductive Parity Act, and thank committee chair and prime sponsor Rep. Eileen Cody for her leadership,” said Christi Stapleton, Interim Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “Washington women must not lose any ground as our state implements the Affordable Care Act. This legislation reaffirms our state’s long-standing commitment to reproductive choice.” “All women, regardless of income, deserve equal access to health insurance coverage for basic reproductive health care, including abortion,” Stapleton added. A companion Senate bill, SB 6185, is sponsored by Sen. Steve Hobbs (D-44). Both bills were heard in committee on January 19. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington has mobilized its statewide network of members and activists to call and email their legislators in support of the Reproductive Parity Act. The organization will continue to work with coalition partners to educate Washington’s pro-choice majority about this legislation and generate legislator contacts in support of a fair and equitable health care system that includes access to abortion care for all Washington women.
